The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is asking parents and carers to check their 'Baby Sleepsafe' monitors, manufactured by Axminster Electronics Ltd, after concerns that the device, if ever dropped, may afterwards fail to monitor a baby's breathing.

A batch of AxminsteR Baby SleepSafe (Model AE 010 M) monitors was supplied with defective battery terminals, which crataegus laevigata fail if the monitor has been dropped. The battery terminals should be fitted with coil springs, to see to it good liaison with the batteries. Monitors with the serial book of Numbers between 001360 and 001660 should be returned to the producer for an upgrade.

The device is connected to a sensor pad located under the mattress, and is intended to monitor the breathing movements of a baby. If a baby stops ventilation for 20 seconds an alarm should sound. These monitors ar primarily intentional for enjoyment in the home and are besides used in some neonatal intensive care and special care baby units.

Other batches of the monitors ar not affected as they were supplied with barrage contacts made from a more resilient material and/or with coil spring contacts.

This warning is for parents and carers who may have these monitors at home. The devices were supplied three to four years agone and are usually exploited to monitor a baby's breathing up to one year old. The worry is that these monitors could be used on siblings or passed on to relatives or friends for use on their babies.

The producer has contacted those hospitals to whom they own supplied the monitors straight off and requested these monitors for upgrading.

Clive Bray, Director of Device Technology and Safety at the MHRA said, 'The MHRA's advice to parents is to firstly check the nonparallel number, printed on the back of the monitor, above the battery compartment . If the number is between 001360 and 001660 then you should send the monitor back to the manufacturer. Also see the battery terminals to make sure they are applying firm pressure to the batteries and are fitted with coil springs.

People can report any rubber related issues concerning medical devices to the MHRA by calling our Adverse Incident Hotline on 020 7084 3080 or logging on to the MHRA website at http://www.mhra.gov.uk, selecting "Report medical devices inauspicious incidents" and following the instruction on the screen.

(Note: - The manufacturer supplies the monitors with batteries packed on an individual basis).

Approximately 230 monitors were supplied directly to parents. A further 63 monitors have been supplied to four hospitals, primarily for loan to parents to use at home. Additionally, two monitors were supplied to a Children's Centre and quadruplet monitors were supplied to a Primary Care Trust.

Feist and Death Cab man team up for charity album

Feist and Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard are reportedly teaming up to record a song together for the forthcoming 'Red Hot' charity album, which benefits AIDS research.

The duo will join several artists including David Byrne, Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, Sharon Jones, Dirty Projectors and The National, who are contributing the latest instalment of the 'Red Hot' charity compilation.

Byrne, who has contributed to several 'Red Hot' compilations over the years, is collaborating with Dirty Projectors for two songs on the album.

In a posting on his website, Byrne wrote, "Id been told more than once that we should all work together, and it seems the suggestion was fated to be realised."

Byrne said of one of the songs: "The tune is as oddly structured as any of their pieces, but you sort of dont notice because it is really catchy and it all flows as if nothing untoward is going on whatsoever."

The as-yet-untitled album is set to be released in the autumn or in early 2009, reports Billboard.

Michelle Williams - Williams Returns To Red-carpet At Cannes

Actress MICHELLE WILLIAMS impressed film fans by making a last minute appearance at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday (22May08) - treading her first red-carpet since the death of former partner HEATH LEDGER.

The star dazzled hordes of photographers as she made her way down the French festival's red-carpet to promote her latest movie Wendy And Lucy.

Williams has kept a low profile since the tragic passing of Ledger - the father of William's two-year-old daughter Matilda - who died from an accidental drugs overdose in his New York apartment earlier this year (Jan08).

The former Dawson's Creek star reached out the world's media in the months after Ledger's death, pleading for privacy for herself and her daughter, saying, "My heart is broken. Please respect our need to grieve privately."

But the star decided it was time to return into the public spotlight, making a last minute long-haul flight from New York to attend the renowned festival.

A representative for Wendy And Lucy explains, ""It was decided on Monday night that she could come to Cannes, and she got on the next plane to arrive just in time to get dressed and come to our premiere."

According the People.com, Williams will stay in Cannes to promote another project, Synecdoche, New York, before returning to the U.S. to continue shooting a Martin Scorcese movie.

John Matthias, Stories From The Watercooler

Although he sounds like neither, it's quite revealing to learn that John Matthias is an associate of both Thom Yorke and Matthew Herbert, the former of whom he met at Exeter University before later contributing violin to Radiohead's The Bends, whilst the latter collaborated on Matthias'debut LP, Smalltown, Shining on Herbert's Lifelike label. For what this singer-songwriter shares with both is a despair with the intellectual debasement of Western society, something Yorke communicated in the The Eraser's dense electronica and Herbert with his creative use of samples on albums like Plat Du Jour.

Yet what Matthias conveys in electronically-tinged folk-rock feels more sad and reflective than seething or abstract. In terms of lyrical themes, Stockwell Road takes a similar approach to Yorke's Harrowdown Hill, focusing upon a real-life news story – in this case the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes – as part of a wider picture questioning the morality of the 'War On Terror'. But it's also a touchingly personal song as well, made more so by the simplicity of the sparse piano over which Matthias sings about walking the innocent man's steps every morning.

It's also more affecting than the other most overtly political song One Sunny Morning In The No-Fly Zone, where some of the imagery about bombs and Britney Spears is a little heavy-handed. Indeed, its Matthias' lightness of touch that makes for the album's most memorable moments, for he's far better at plaintive acoustic ballads like Evermore than he is at rockier tracks such as Blind Lead The Blind. Like Tuung, Matthias might colour his music with slight electronic shades, provided in here by album producers Coldcut, yet his songs are firmly in the folk story-telling tradition even when they're about resolutely contemporary concerns, be it the man determined to drive out a trendy Londoner in King Of A Small Town or the credit crunch in Viper’s Nest. But perhaps the song that says the most about Songs From The Watercooler is Stocktaking, being a beautifully melodic yet understated tune about a busker who, just like this album, doesn’t really fit in anywhere.
